It is with great sadness that the family of the late Winston Carl Decker announces his passing from the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre on Monday, March 03, 2026 at the age of 85.
Winston was born and raised in Woodstock by his parents William and Stella Decker. He built his two homes and raised a wonderful family. He started work at a young age in the woods, and working with his father and brothers on their family sawmill. Later he worked for Gid Sacrey in a sawmill. As time went on he became a crane operator up until he retired. He loved ski-dooing, going out for a jig in his speed boat and loved berry picking along side his wife Nina. He will always be remembered for his witty humor. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Winston was predeceased by his loving wife Nina; parents - William & Stella Decker; brother - Harold; daughter-in-law - Wilhelmina Decker; parents-in-law - Dorman & Rosie Mitchell and a number of in-laws.
He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his children - Helen Hobbs (Everett), Gloria Mitchell (Rex), Jeanette Regular (Scott), Joanne Packwood (Morris), Wayne Decker (Arlene), Derick Decker, Glen Decker (Arlene), Jasper Decker (Sylvia); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren & great great grandchildren; siblings - Gary, Joe, Boyd, Ted, Kay, Sharon, Judy, Janice, Ann & Jackie; siblings-in-law - Goldie, Maisie, Lola, Myrtle, Linda, Dennis, & Larry; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will take place for family and close friends on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 2:00PM - 4:00PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.
The funeral service will take place for family and close friends on Saturday, March 7, 2026, 1:00PM from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Winston's memory to the New United Church Cemetery Fund, Woodstock, NL.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of Baie Verte Hospital for their exceptional kindness and compassion shown to Winston and his family.
