William (Bill) Mercer, son of Walter Mercer and Dorothy Mercer (nee Newman), passed away Feb 14, 2023 at his residence in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL surrounded by his family.

Bill was born August 13, 1944 in Badger, Newfoundland.

Those who knew Bill knew him to be a devoutly religious man, kind and generous to all of God's creations; to family, friend and stranger.

Bill loved spending time with family and friends sharing a good joke, a humorous yarn or an impromptu jam session. Bill loved to play the accordion and harmonica to entertain those around him; and enjoyed it all the more when they joined in.

Bill was a prospector, which allowed him to pursue his life's passion amidst the nature he loved so much. He was just as at home trekking the wilderness, appreciating the wonders that surrounds us all, as he was at home.

Bill is survived by Wife Judy (nee Pelley). Predeceased by Mother Dorothy (Newman), father Walter and baby brother Walter.

Left to mourn are five daughters; Beverly, Annette (Donald), Dorothy (Dereck), Yolanda (Jason) and Jaclyn (Ryan). Four grandsons; Shawn, Justin, Branden and Christopher. One great-grandson; Hayden, and numerous friends and cousins.

As well as twelve siblings and their families; Marie (Gerry), Ron (Barb), Bridget, Ellen (Cyril), Walter (Madonna), George (Verna), Marion (Neil), Hilda (Nish), Rose (Pankaj), Kevin (Eileen), Theresa (Don), and Deanna (Warren).

The public visitation will take place Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, February 17, 2023 at 11 am from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL with Father Joseph Uy officiating.  The funeral service will be streamed live at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Facebook page.

The interment will follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Badger, NL.

As expressions of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to the Grand Falls-Windsor Food Bank.
