Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Wesley Earl Matthews announces his passing at his residence in Burlington, NL on Monday, June 15th, 2026 at the age of 72 years.

Wesley was born on May 19th 1954 to William and Mary Helen Matthews, He grew up in Burlington NL. Wesley enjoyed being outside, cutting wood, mowing grass and riding his quad. He would ride around town stopping to chat to everyone he saw around town. Wesley had a great memory, he could tell you all of his families birthdates and the last time they visited. He enjoyed his time out in his boat but most of all he enjoyed going in the big boat with his nephew Ryan across the bay to visit Baxter and Gloria. Wesley had a great interest in the upkeep of the cemetery, he would make sure the grass was always cut and the area kept neat and tidy. Wesley was loved by all and will be greatly missed but mostly by his family who loved him deeply.

He is predeceased by parents, William and Mary Helen Matthews; Brothers, Fred, Garfield, Henry (Mina); Sisters, Sarah, Melvina (Cyril), Georgina (Sidney), Rita (Norman), Blanche (Clifford) and Julia (Ron); Sister-in-law, Myrtle.

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his siblings, John (Nellie), Walter (Gladys), Alex; brother-in-law, Neville, and a large circle of family and friends.

Public visitation will take place from Faith Pentecostal Church, Burlington, NL on Friday, June 19, 2026 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.

The funeral service will take place from Faith Pentecostal Church, Burlington, NL on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Trevor Deering officiating. Interment will follow from Perry's Cove Cemetery, Burlington, NL.
