It's with heavy hearts that the family of the late Velma May Hoddinott announces her passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte, NL on Friday, January 27, 2023 at the age of 75 years.

Velma was born to Andrew and Dorothy Canning on May 25, 1947 in Birchy Bay, NL.

Velma came to Shoe Cove as a young teacher. She taught school in a one room school house! She met the love of her life, George Hoddinott and together they had seven children.

Velma loved to take care of her family, she enjoyed cooking and baking. Her favourite pasttime was making quilts, of which we all have many treasures.

Velma leave to mourn her husband of 55 years, George Hoddinott; daughters, Darlene (Eldon), Wanda (Robert), Krista (Spencer) and Stephanie (James); her son, Baxter (Tia); grandchildren, Jeffery (Denise), Jessica (Keith), Jasmine, Jake, Andrew, Dani, Courtney, Zachery, Luke, Silas, John and Liam; great-grandsons, Harrison and Finn; sisters, Pansy (Charles) and Roxenna as well as a number of other relatives and friends.

Velma is predeceased by her sons, John and Kenneth; parents, Andrew and Dorothy Canning; parents-in-law, George and Sarah Hoddinott and other relatives.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitation.

The funeral service took place from First United Church, Shoe Cove, NL on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 9:30 am with Reverend Harry Oake officiating. Interment followed from First United Cemetery, Shoe Cove, NL.
