Thomas Francis Barry peacefully joined his beloved late wife and best friend of over 60 years, Eileen.  He is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Mike); his son, Brian (Nancy); his cherished grandchildren, Vanessa (Jonathan), Laura (Matthew), and Emily, as well as Kaitlyn (Evan) and Gillian; and his great-grandchildren, Riley and Rosalie.

The eldest of his siblings, Tom is survived by Sheila (Fred), Kevin (Alicia), Mike, Carmel, Madonna, Bernie (Steadman), and Helen (Fred); and predeceased by Jacinta, Ann, and Edward.  He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, members of the Hynes family, other relatives, friends, and very special neighbours – both past and present.

Tom was born in Windsor to the late Bert and Margaret Barry.  A hard and dedicated worker from a young age, Tom did it all – janitor, accountant, logger, railway worker, shelf-stocker, student – though perhaps his most memorable role was as a teacher and vice principal at St. Michael's High School, where he worked for 30 years.  When he retired, Tom loved running into and hearing from his former students, many of whom still affectionately called him Mr. Barry or TFB and greeted him by reciting the definition of "economics".

Tom was an advocate.  Never shy to speak up for what he believed was right, Tom perpetuated fairness – from his involvement in provincial and federal politics to promoting prostate cancer awareness to his work with the hospital board.  But, he was more than all of that.  Tom was an avid Blue Jays and Red Wings fan, late-blooming choral singer, and, if you didn't know better, you'd likely mistake him for a meteorologist.

Above all else, Tom was most proud of his family.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who shared so fully in his family's happiness.  In recent years, he was tickled to add new members to the family – both human and furry – and was always up to date on their latest accomplishments.  Together, Tom and Eileen created a tight-knit family that meant everything to them, evidenced by the love shown each and every day.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Grand Falls-Windsor Regional Cancer Centre for their exceptional care and friendship over the past number of years.  Even when treatment was challenging, Tom and Eileen enjoyed seeing the team at the Cancer Centre and thought of them as extended family.

In keeping with Tom and Eileen's wishes, there will be a private joint memorial service held at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory can be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre or the Lionel Kelland Hospice in Grand Falls-Windsor.
