Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Terry Aubrey Penney announces his peaceful passing from the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte, NL on Thursday, February 22, 2024, aged 63 years.

Terry Aubrey Penney was a hardworking, loving, warm, and humorous man. A rough exterior with the softest interior you could ever imagine. Born in Carbonear, NL in 1961, Terry enjoyed the earliest memories of his childhood here before moving with his mother & father to La Scie, NL. Immediately after high school, Terry pursued a career with the Navy, travelling across vast oceans gaining meaningful life experiences that would make him the person he was.

He met the love of his life, Denise Penney, and moved to Brampton, ON. She became his life partner in 1997 and was her best friend until the very end. Him & Denise created their pride & joy, Miranda Penney, in 1998 and made memories together. He was a family man – it was always the three of them.

He worked at numerous warehouses in Ontario until moving back to La Scie and working as a carpenter. Terry was intelligent, having a way with words and with wood – if you could think it, he could make it. Every May, the trout would start calling his name and he would travel to his cabin to catch quite a feed for him and Miranda.

He was a stubborn, strong, loving fighter until the very end. The qualities that made Terry the person he was will remain in the hearts and minds of his family & friends throughout the difficult days ahead.

Left with a lifetime of precious memories is his wife of 26 years, Denise Penney; daughters, Miranda Penney (Evan Wilkins) and Angela Penney; mother-in-law, Alma Osmond; siblings-in-law, Lynn Burton (Ed), Thelma Fahey (Thomas) and Jamie Osmond (Carol-Ann); uncle, Claude Penney ; aunts, Violet Whalen (Wayne), Sandra Foster (Roy) and Phyllis Cadwell (Garfield); special cousin, Colleen Gray (Jason); cousins, Kelly Foster (Richard), Kathy Walsh (Jim), Kim Hogan (Frank), Leyette Butt (Barry) and Terry Whalen (Kim); his special girls, Claire and Sofia Bath, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Terry is predeceased by his parents, Aubrey and Edna Penney; brother, Dave Penney; his maternal and fraternal grandparents; father-in-law, Garland Osmond.

Public visitation will take place from The Salvation Army Citadel, La Scie, NL on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 7-9 pm, continuing on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.

The funeral service will take place from The Salvation Army Citadel, La Scie, NL on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 1 pm, with Major Kay Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at a later date.
