It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sylvester Drover announces his passing on October 10, 2025 at the Carmelite House, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL aged, 79 years.

Sylvester William Drover was born in April 1946 in Harbour Round Newfoundland to William and Josephine Drover.  He was the eldest of 4 boys. He spent his childhood gathering wood with his brothers to keep the family warm in the winter. He contracted tuberculosis at the age of 8 and ended up spending 18 months in the Sanitorium in Corner Brook. Amazingly, he survived and came back home to Harbour Round. Around that same time, he also lost his dad to drowning. Life wasn't easy but they all had each other. It was in Harbour Round that he met his wife Mary, and they married and had three kids. They moved to Brent's Cove and raised their 3 children: Phyllis, Charlene, and Michelle. At the age of 24 he went off to Stephenville to finish his schooling. He was employed with National Sea for most of his working life, but on the side, he was a rockstar. When the girls were just teenagers, he was part of a rock 'n' roll band called the 3 Squids with his buddies, Walter and Ignatius.  He always had a love of music and song, and he charmed many with his voice. Whenever he showed up at a social, it was expected that he would sing a few songs. He moved on from the rock 'n' roll band to become a stuffed squid superstar, entertaining lots of us with his jokes and skits. Him and Dave Brett could put on quite a show. They toured the island many times, packing parish halls and rec centres wherever they went. They even made a trip to Fort McMurray where their show was sold out. Yup, they were stuffed squid superstars. When he wasn't singing and entertaining, he also loved to tinker in his shed where you would find millions and millions of screws and bits and power tools where he built stuff that nobody else could even figure out how to use.  He was one of a kind. He was the proud grandpa to three amazing grandchildren, Megan, Hannah and Kelsey, and he just recently became the proud great grandpa to little Elliott. He loved to spend time at his cabin hanging out with his many friends and family. More recently he loved skidoo rides from the house door with his skidooing buddies in Brent's Cove. His strong Irish voice will surely be missed here on earth and will be gladly received in heaven.

The public visitation will take place Monday, October 13, 2025 at 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM  from St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Brent's Cove , NL.

The Rosary and Wake Service will take place on Monday, October 13, 2025 from  St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Brent's Cove, NL at 7:00 PM

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday October 14, 2025  from St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Brent's Cove, NL at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow from St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Cemetery, Brent's Cove, NL

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations may be made to St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Cemetery, Brent's Cove, NL.
