Harbour Round

Obituary

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts, the family of the late Stanley Charles Giles announce his tragic passing at sea near his hometown of Harbour Round, NL. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. He was 66 years of age.

Stan was born in Harbour Round to Lester and Margaret (Nell) Giles. He grew up in his hometown, where he met the love of his life, Roxanne. They married in 1985. They had two beautiful children, who they raised in Harbour Round for most of their lives. Stan started his journey in life under the guidance of his father teaching him to be a fisherman. Later, he joined with his brother to continue to fish the seas of White Bay. Stan and his family's journey eventually took them to the mainland, where he worked the oil fields to provide for his family. After several years away, they returned home to Newfoundland to be closer to family and friends. Stan was able to rekindle his passion for fishing and the life he loved. Stan and Roxanne would later make their cabin in Black Brook their home away from home, where they enjoyed the quiet life and the beauty of the outdoors. Stan loved life to the fullest. He loved fishing, hunting, trouting, berry picking, and snowmobiling. Whether on the water or in the woods, he was happiest surrounded by nature. Above all else, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He deeply loved his children, cherished every moment with his grandchildren, and adored his loyal dog Sadie. His quiet strength, sense of humour, hardworking nature, and unwavering love for those closest to him will always be remembered. Stan's passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through the stories shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.

He is predeceased by his parents, Lester & Margaret (Nel) Giles, brother Harold Giles, brother in law Lorne Fudge, John Johnson, Sylvester Drover, sister in law Lorraine Burton and brother in law Jerry Burton.

Left to cherish many wonderful memories is his wife Roxanne, children Terri Lynn Ryan (Anthony) of Fort McMurray AB & Shawn Giles (Lisa) of Fort McMurray AB. Grandchildren Ava, Alissa, Summer, Zac, Aaron & Deseray. Gone With the Tide
He answered the call of the open sea, As he had done so many times before.
With weathered hands, a faithful heart, And love waiting on the shore.
A devoted husband, a cherished dad, A grandfather whose stories will live on.
A beloved uncle, nephew, godfather, A great-uncle whose kindness touched so many.
Though the sea became his final resting place,
His spirit is not lost among the waves.
It lives in every sunrise on the water, Every quiet harbour, every salty breeze.

His voyage ended far too soon, Without a chance for one last goodbye.
But love does not end where life does-It sails on in every heart he leaves behind.
May gentle seas now carry you,
May peaceful winds be at your back.
Until we meet beyond the horizon, You will be loved, remembered, and missed forever.
