Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sidney Blagdon, who passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Lionel Kelland Hospice on March 14, 2026, at the age of 74, following many years of courageously facing health challenges.

Sid was born and raised in Coombs Cove and later built a full and happy life with his family in Baie Verte, yet his heart was forever anchored in Coombs Cove, the place that shaped his soul and always called him back to spend summers with his beloved wife, Theresa, at their home there.

For 34 years, Sid shared his life with Theresa (Shelley), with whom he raised a loving family and built countless memories. He took great pride in watching his three boys—Walter, Adam and stepson Rob grow into kind, hardworking men.

Sid worked as a skilled Millwright and Master Plumber, and in his spare time he pursued his passion for running small businesses. He had a deep love of the ocean that went beyond recreation—fishing, hunting, and everything outdoors brought him peace and joy. Always the first to lend a helping hand, Sid was known for his generosity, warmth, and unwavering loyalty to those he cared about.

Anyone who knew Sid knew he was quick‑witted, endlessly curious, and had a special gift for making you see things his way—usually with a laugh. He possessed a distinctive blend of humour and wisdom—able to make anyone laugh while offering thoughtful insight. He was the ultimate charismatic goofball who believed any song could be made better with a ridiculous dance move attached to it. A die‑hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he never missed a chance to cheer his team on with enthusiasm and heart.

Sid was predeceased and is now reunited with his beloved wife of 34 years, Theresa, his parents Leah and Walter, his siblings Wally, Sam, Jessie, and Claude, daughter‑in‑law Marion, and brother‑in‑law Harry.

Leaving to mourn with loving memories are his sons Walter, Adam (Lisa) and their mother Kerry Ovens, stepson Rob Shelley (Aggy), sister Rosabel Hillier‑Beamish (Don), brothers‑in‑law Brendan Shelley, Roland Shelley (Wanda), and sisters‑in‑law Tina Steacy (Herb) and Doreen Mitchell (Steve), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

A sincere thank‑you to Pam, Dianne, John, Tina, Amy, Stephanie, and Tanya for your support and kindness. The family would also like to thank the many friends, neighbours, and members of the community who visited, shared meals, and offered their support during Sid's illness. Your compassion and care meant more than words can express.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sid's memory may be made to the Lionel Kelland Hospice, who went above and beyond during his final days. Donate Here.
