Sheila Theresa
Hennessey
Mar 1, 1937 — Mar 25, 2023
Grand Falls-Windsor
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Sheila Theresa Hennessey (Jackman) passed away in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL with her family by her side on March 25, 2023, at the age of 86. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children: Alma Singleton (Rudy), Gary Hennessey (Elizabeth), Paula Rogers (Paul), Cynthia Hennessey-Lewis (Sean), Dennis and Dianne; grandchildren: Sarah (Chad Bugden), Rebecca (Brandon O'Dea), Brendan (Hayley Burke), Mark and Noah (Dr. Fraser Jang-Milligan); great-grandson, Jacob Bugden, brother, Edmund Jackman (Susan), and sister, Elizabeth Raymond (Larry); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Sheila was predeceased by her loving husband, Alphonsus Hennessey, her daughter, Dana, her parents, Frank and Cecilia Jackman and her sisters, Kathleen Cripe, Doreen Cardoulis, Joan Juteau and Jean Buckle; as well as her brothers David and Donald Jackman.
Mom met the love of her life when she was just a teenager and it was love at first sight. They married one week before she turned 20 and went on to share their lives for over 40 years and raise their seven children including triplets! They made a loving, music-filled home in Dad's family home on Junction Road. Mom loved to make their house a home by decorating and trying out the latest trends and Dad would be right by her side, whether it was sponge painting the walls, refinishing the floors or hanging wallpaper… now that's a true test of a marriage!
In the early days of their marriage, they enjoyed going to dances where Dad would play in the band. They would gracefully glide around the dance floor and even in their later years, we loved to watch them dance effortlessly in each others' arms.
After raising seven children, Mom was an active volunteer at her church, whether it was helping the less fortunate, preparing the church for services or serving on the Social Action Committee. In her older years, she finally got to enjoy some time for herself. This included shopping trips to St. John's to see her sister where they could be found modelling hats of many colors and styles or making videos of themselves singing and dancing to the music at the mall! Mom also loved to share a laugh and a cup of tea with her friends and neighbours in her apartment building and neighbourhood.
Mom's greatest joy in her older years was spending time with her precious grandchildren and great-grandson. They lit up her life as much as she enriched theirs. She lived a life of strong faith and convictions and found comfort in her final months relying on this faith. Throughout her life and in her final days, she showed us what strength looked like and left us with a lifetime of memories that we will cherish forever.
The public visitation will take place on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on 10 Bayley Street in Grand Falls-Windsor from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.
The funeral will take place Monday, March 27, 2023, at 11 AM from Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Church Road, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. The interment will follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
