Selina
Parsons
Jun 10, 1929 — Mar 4, 2023
Baie Verte
It is with sadness that the family of the late Selina Parsons, formally of Channel-Port aux Basques, NL, who was residing in Baie Verte, NL announces her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, aged 93 years.
Selina was daughter of the late Alexander and Julia (Nee Ayers) Carew. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children
Carolann (David) Greene, St John's, NL and Colette (Allan) Sheaves, Baie Verte, NL. A proud grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Yvonne (Chris) McSwiney and Danny (Beth) Greene, her great-children Elaine and Andrew McSwiney; brother Eric Carew and sister-in-law Mary Carew, and many nieces and nephews.
We want to tell you a few little things about our mother.
A strong woman to say the least. When our dad passed away, she was left to raise two girls, eight and twelve. Looking back we would say she never missed a beat. Wiped away her tears and trudged on.
She had many talents, making our home comfortable and happy was a top priority.
Lena/ Aunt Lena as everyone called her, liked to crochet, knit, read, enjoyed bowling and was an outstanding baker.
She was still making dessert for our Thursday night Bingo Club. Did I say she liked Bingo, she would say I am not going to play anymore. Then she would have her hand in her wallet getting her money out for Bingo Cards. We really only made donations, did not win much at our Bingo Club.
I am sure everyone in our family received one of those sweaters with the design around the sleeve, back and front with a zipper. Those were in high demand in the 70's. She would give up her meal if she thought you needed it more than her.
Selina was predeceased by her first husband Norman Strickland and second husband Herbert Parsons, brothers Gordon, Aplhonse(Geraldine) Carew and Frank Carew, sister, Aneitha Sheaves, brother and sister-in-law, Clifford Sheaves and Sylvia Carew.
In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place.
Special thanks to the Ambulance Drivers, Mark and Roger and the staff at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls- Windsor, NL.
The funeral service will take place at a later date in Channel-Port aux Basques, NL.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in her memory may be made to The Kids Eat Smart Foundation. CLICK HERE TO DONATE
