Obituary

"Beauty is a light in the heart."  Khalil Gibran

A beautiful, blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl; born on Barr'd Island, Sarah Lewis was the apple of her father's eye.  It was on Fogo Island that she spent a wonderful and happy childhood, rowing in the punt, jumping on the ice pans and spending time near the water. Her fondest wish came true when her baby brother, "little Jimmy" was born. Although separated by 11 years, Sarah and Jim were incredibly close as children and remained so throughout their entire lives.

A devoted, kind and gentle mother, Sarah possessed a quiet but mighty strength that she instilled in all of her children. She was ever present, always loving.  Her greatest joy was to be surrounded by her children, of whom she was fiercely proud.

Sarah loved to laugh and she laughed a lot!  Her laughter was infectious.  She found much pleasure in simple misfortunes and would laugh until tears rolled down her face.  She enjoyed fishing and would squeal with delight whenever she caught one.  She loved boats, whether a punt or a cruise ship, time on or near the water was a joy. She always loved to reminisce about life on Barr'd Island.  She delighted in recounting adventures with her lifelong friend Thursa Lewis and with Hazel (Lewis) Lacey who she loved like a sister.

Forever loved and remembered by husband Calvin, children Debbie Cantwell (Rick), Lorraine Cantwell, Diane Cantwell (Harry), Colleen Hunter (Brian), Gary Cantwell (Michelle), Jacinta Cantwell (Jack), Paula Butler (John).  Grandchildren Jabez, Jody, Keith, and Jamie, as well as seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law Susan Hyndman, nephew David Lewis, Mona Lewis, and a large circle of extended family and friends.

We are comforted in the knowledge that she is now reunited with the loved ones who have already left us: parents Hezekiah and Annie (nee Wheaton) of Fredericton, beloved brother Jim Lewis and cherished grandson, Lucas Butler.

Like a shadow in the moonlight
Like a whisper of the seas
Like the echoes of a melody
Just beyond our reach
In the shadow of our sorrow
Past the whisper of good bye
Love shines through eternity
A heartbeat from our eye
