Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our Mom, Sandra Catherine Maloney, of Grand Falls-Windsor. Sandra passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, October 6th, 2026, at the age of 83, under the caring hands of the staff at the Lionel Kelland Hospice in Grand Falls-Windsor, surrounded by her loved ones.

A loving Mom to David, Rhonda, Colleen, and Kim, and a dedicated wife to Rodie, she also enjoyed her 31 years working at the Grand Falls Co-op from 1972 - 2003. Never an idle woman, upon retirement she enrolled in the Therapeutic Recreation course at Keyin College to fill her time, graduating with honours in 2006. She went on to volunteer with Central Health for many years, as well as The Rebecca’s Lodge and the 50 Plus Club.

She was the last to go to bed at night and the first up in the morning. With energy to spare, she enjoyed line dancing, quilted beautiful blankets, knitted countless dishcloths and slippers, and got her steps in daily. She never missed a chance to dance. Music brought her to her feet and a smile to her face. Many a Saturday night found her and Rodie dancing in the kitchen, listening to the Kitchen Party.

She is survived by her son, David (Maggie), daughters Rhonda (Steve) Bragg, Colleen (Ed) Healey, and Kim (Doug) Simms; much-loved grandchildren Vanessa, Tara, Eddie, Jason, Justin and Sami; and 12 cherished great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings Violet, Cornel, Junior, Annetta, Elizabeth, Dan, Bill, Patsy and Bonnie; as well as her close friend Paul Cormier.

She had much to be proud of, but without a doubt, her family was what gave her the greatest joy.

Sandra was predeceased in death by her beloved husband Rodie Maloney; parents, Frederick and Phyllis Woolridge; brothers Alvin, Wycliff, Allan; brother-in-law Tom Arnold; sister-in-law Carolyn Woolridge.

The family would like to express our thanks to the staff of Lakeside Homes in Gander, and Dr. Jennifer Noftall for the care and compassion Mom received. Donations to the Lionel Kelland Hospice in Grand Falls-Windsor are kindly accepted and appreciated.

There are no goodbyes for us, Mom. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts.

The public visitation will take place Monday, October 12, 2026 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm & 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 8A Church Road Park, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL with Father Joseph Uy officiating.

The interment will follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
