It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ross Young announces his peaceful passing, in the presence of his loving wife, on Friday, November 11, 2022, from his home in Woodstock, NL.
Ross was born to Garfield and Phoebe Young of Campbellton NL. Ross started working as a young man with Transportation and Works (Engineering) until he retired at age 60, where many lifelong friendships were established and continued into retirement. For many years Ross was a member and supporter of the Salvation Army Corps in Norris Arm. Following his move to Woodstock in 2001, with wife Ena, he became a member of the Woodstock Salvation Army Corps.
During retirement his days were filled with enjoyment of farming vegetables, mowing grass for neighbours on his ride on lawn mower, household chores and cooking supper for his wife everyday.
Left with loving and cherished memories are his wife of almost 21 years, Ena; his sons, Greg (Corinne Maxwell) and Geoff (Renee); daughter, Colleen Rideout (Rodney); grandchildren, Alvin, Jenna, Nick, Liam, Larissa and Hailea; siblings, Inez Hill, George (Della), Ethel Pope, Eleanor Wiseman (Roland), Garry (Lexie), Eugene (Pam), Kay Cooper (Calvin), Roy, Catherine; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bram Hooper, Andrew Canning (Yvonne), Baxter Canning (Juanita), Wilbert Canning (Daisy), Elmo Canning (Joy), Wilfred Canning (Joyce), Mont Canning (Betty), Gladys Decker (Howard), Darrell Canning (Cindy), Lester Canning (Vicky), Harold Canning; sister-in-law, Greta Jacobs and a large number of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Predeceased by his parents Garfield and Phoebe Young; father-in-law, Samuel Canning; mother-in-law, Mary Canning; son-in-law, Nathan Regular; sister and brother-in-law, Edna Sooley (Levi); sister, Jessie Hooper; brother, "little" Lester; brother-in-law Harold Hill; brother-in-law, Wilfred Pope; brother-in-law, Levi Canning; and step-nephew, Darren Canning.
The family would like to extend an heartfelt thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Central NL Regional Health Centre, the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Care Centre, for the tremendous care and concern given to Ross over the past few months during the several hospital admittances. Special thank you to family and friends for providing a place to stay, visits, food, phone calls, and necessary help around home during the past few months.
Public visitation took place from The Salvation Army Citadel, Woodstock, NL on Monday, November 14, 2022 from 7-9 pm.
The funeral service took place from The Salvation Army Citadel, Woodstock, NL on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 2 pm with Majors Neil and Dolores Abbott officiating. Interment followed from The Salvation Army Cemetery, Woodstock, NL.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations may be made in Ross' memory to The Salvation Army Citadel, P.O. Box 17, Woodstock, NL A0K 5X0 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation,1037 Topsail Rd, Mount Pearl, NL A1N 5E9.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.
