It is with great sadness the family of the late Ronald Clarence Warford announces his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Center at the age of 92 years.

Ron was born to Bennett and Fannie Warford of Pleasantview (Paradise) on May 24, 1928. At the age of 12 he started work alongside his father and they worked in the lumber woods, operated a sawmill, fished, farmed and operated a cannery. For many years he worked as a carpenter and was well known for his perfectionism in that trade.

In his later years you could see Dad's boat coasting in the bay of beautiful Pleasantview docking at the wharf with a load of freshly caught cod fish or lobster. We can clearly picture him standing at the stage cleaning and filleting his catch of the day. He would walk through the door, freshly scented with Newfoundland's salt water natural cologne, looking for some "grub" as he liked to call it. Looking out the window from his home was his garden leading to the ocean and lines of drying, salted fish, a labour of his hard work. He spent time in the garden caring for his raspberry bushes, strawberry patches and his vegetables. He loved a good game of cards with his friends and was a serious player. It wouldn't be unheard of to see him throw a deck of cards in the wood stove after losing a game. He could make the button accordion "sing" although he was very reserved and humble. He was a gentle and quiet man. He loved a good joke or a good laugh. He especially enjoyed family get-togethers that involved a lobster or mussel boil up. His family - our late Mom, children, in-laws and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. Especially in later years he would mumble the words "loves ya" - words he deeply meant. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Having lived through years when he had to work hard for a living with little pay, Dad learned to be conservative with his spending. However, he was more than generous with his giving. No stranger, friend, family member or clergy ever visited his home without leaving with some fresh vegetables, fish, berries or some other treat. This carried on even after he finished working the land and sea and moved to his new home at Hollett's Retirement Center. What made him happiest was sharing any special treats he would receive with his friends, especially Roy.

Left with loving memories are his daughters Gwen (John Fitzgerald), Vera (Derek) Williams, Gloria Thompson; sons Lloyd (Delphine) and Kirk (Melinda); grandchildren Marsha (Randy Cormier), Paul (Tish) Williams, Lori (Corey) Murray, Tim (Kim) Thompson, Amy (Troy) Penny, Corey Warford, Zachary (Shannon) Warford, Hiliary (Ian) Warford; great grandchildren Travis & Carys Cormier, Holly Williams (Matthew White), Grace & Max Williams, Ryan & Claire Murray, Eric & Kathleen Thompson, Ella Penny; great-great grandchildren Henry & Thomas White; sisters-in-law Ruby Stuckless, Cheryl Taylor, Joan Noseworthy; many nieces and nephews and special friends Roy Fudge and Ford & Madeline Vincent.

He was predeceased by his wife Irene (Noseworthy), parents Bennett and Fannie Warford; grandson Justin Warford; son-in-law Kevin Thompson; brothers Harris (Ivy) and Royburn; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Special thanks to the staff of Hollett's Retirement Center where he was a resident for 12 years, as well as the staff of 2A of Central Regional Health Care Center for their care and compassion.
