It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ronald John Skinner announces his passing from the Lionel Kelland Hospice, Grand Falls - Windsor, NL on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, aged 70 years.

Ronald (Ron) was born on October 3, 1955 to John and Elizabeth (Seymour) Skinner.   He was the fifth of ten children.
Ron was never married and very much lived his life on his own terms.  His cabin in the woods was better than any mansion and his horse was better than any car.  Never without his cowboy hat, he was the cowboy often seen on the roadways riding his horse.
He was born with a gift for animals.  He was a talented horse and dog whisperer long before the term was ever coined.  He was equally gifted with children.  He was the beloved uncle, great uncle and great, great uncle of his many nieces and nephews.  He was so very proud of each of them.
Ron was happiest at his cabin in the woods, surrounded by nature.  He had a deep respect for all living things and in his later years could not bring himself to take the life of another living thing.  He was kind and generous to all who were fortunate to have known him.
Ron held a special place in the lives and hearts of all his brothers and sisters, and especially his late mother.  He was often known to boast "I knows I'm mom's favourite!"
Fishing with his brothers was a great joy to him and many stories have been told about their "times in boat"
In his younger years, Ron was never known to shy away from a challenge and would  often reflect with a chuckle on the times he was "barred".  This fighting spirit served him well over the past 3 years.  Cancer became his greatest adversary, and he tackled it head on.  He was always optimistic and planning his next "thing".  This past winter he was still riding his skidoo, spending time in the woods and at the same time planning his summer trouting trips.  His determination, strength and positive attitude were unwavering to the end.

Ron is predeceased by his parents John and Elizabeth, brothers Frank and sister-in-law Eileen, Terrence and sister-in-law Rita and sister-in-law Irene.

He is lovingly remembered by his sisters Irene, Mary (Ray) brothers Victor, Gerard, Edward(Evelyn), Brendan (Lorraine), Wayne (Michelle), numerous nieces and nephews, special friends Rosemary and Mike, Vera and AJ and a large circle of extended family and friends.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to his care nurses Ruth and Jalissa (Jesse) and all the staff at Providential Living, Springdale and the Lionel Kelland Hospice.  Ron was treated with dignity, compassion and respect as he journeyed through his final days.
To reference his favourite Hank Williams song- God has his cabin waiting.  Rest easy as you fly with the eagles.

Public visitation will take place from Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Harbour Round, NL on Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 2-6 pm followed by a rosary and wake service at 7 pm

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place from Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Harbour Round, NL on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 2 pm, with Father Emmanuel officiating. Interment will follow from Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Harbour Round, NL.
