Roland Arthur
Sceviour
Oct 27, 1927 — Aug 12, 2020
Botwood
It is with sadness that the families of the late Arthur Roland Sceviour of Botwood, NL, announces his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, aged 92 years.
Arthur Roland (Rol) Sceviour was born on October 27, 1927. A skilled and hard-working, self-employed carpenter and business person. Starting out at the early age of 14 with limited education but massive determination he headed for the lumber woods where he became a seasoned sawyer and pulp wood cutter helping to support his family during the hard times that continued after the depression. During a down turn in the pulp industry he turned his talents towards carpentry putting the skills learned from his father to use. He worked on construction of various schools and churches throughout the central region where he honed his skill. He saw a need for new home construction and renovations and with his wife Flossie on-side he started out on his own. Early on partnering with his brother William (Bill) then with his cousin Cyril (Bob). Then with youngest son Derek he built a reputation for fast, quality work. His legacy continues today.
He was very proud to be a volunteer with CCGA (NL), a non-profit volunteer organization used to augment the search and rescue resources in the Newfoundland and Labrador Region working in conjunction with the Canadian Coast Guard.
He was a member of Botwood Lions Club, Trinity United Church (AOTS) Men's Fellowship, and served on various Trinity United Church Board of management committees.
Of all his accomplishments, love of family and family traditions topped the bill. It could be trips down the bay in Early Riser, full family get togethers (anniversaries/birthdays), playing Santa for all family members (young and old alike), or celebrating the birth of each new family addition (loving each one equally).
Left to mourn are his loving wife of 69 years, Flossie; sons, Arthur (Sheila),Tony (Helen), Derek (Lana); and daughter Michele (Bill); grandchildren, Kara (Chad), Richard (Heather), Amy (Sean), Krista (Gary), Kelly (Greg), Stephanie (Tom), Brandon (Patti-Lynn), Emily (James), Patrick, Michael, and Jason; also ten beautiful great-grandchildren, Abby, Brooklyn, Kalan, Nathan, Lily, Blair, Jenna, Lily-Ann, Danielle, and Lydia.
Predeceased by his parents, George and Bessie Sceviour; his brothers, George, Wesley, and William; and sister, Pearl.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions there will be no public visitation or funeral services. All services will remain private for the family.
As expressions sympathy donations in his memory may be made to Trinity United Church, Botwood, NL.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Botwood Funeral Home, 147 Commonwealth Drive, Botwood, NL. Ph.709-257-3534.
