Rexford "Whistling
Rex" Osley Lopez
May 10, 1936 — Jan 11, 2023
Grand Falls-Windsor
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rexford 'Rex' Lopez announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on January 11, 2023, at the age of 86. Rex was predeceased by his daughter Faye, infant son Gary, parents Johanna Lopez and Hubert Eastman, and siblings Yvonne and Robert. He is now reunited with all those whom he loved so dearly.
Rex was a man that loved the outdoors, and he enjoyed picking apart anything he could find. He loved cutting a load of wood with friends and lugging it home to make his home much too warm. He loved spending time in his old shed, tinkering with the treasures he collected over the years, including way too many chainsaws, wrenches, and snowmobile parts. Rex was a character that could be rough around the edges at times, but he made everyone feel better when they were around him.
Rex dearly loved his wife, Lillian, throughout many joys and hardships in their life together and, right to the end, she was able to bring a brighter smile to his face than anyone else could. He was immensely proud of his children, and he let them know they were beautiful and special every time they were together. He just had a way about him that made people feel happy to be in his presence. Rex's grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and they were his pride and joy to the end.
Whenever one of his children or grandchildren brought home a friend, Rex made a special effort to make them feel as welcome as if they were his own. Throughout the years, there have been so many people for whom Rex and Lillian's home was a safe haven.
Rex was known and loved by so many people. If anyone heard that wonderful whistle, Rex was sure to be nearby. He was a friend to everyone he met, and he always had that whistle to share along with endless laughs and at least one entertaining story. He will be greatly missed in the community and by the countless people he befriended over the years.
Rex leaves to mourn his wife, Lillian; his sons, Herb (Isabelle Bouzane), Gary (Maria Moores), and Tony (Tanya Hilton); his daughters, Deb (Glenn Petrie), Robena (Chad Stuckless), Peggy (Ray Murdock), Patricia (Sterling Wells), Sherry, Paula, and Lori (Elmo Cain); his grandchildren, Tanya, Gerri, Catherine, Stephanie, Ashley, Nicole, Jessica, Justin, Jeremy, Brandon, Landon, and Emory; as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind siblings Grace, Audrey, George, Shirley, and Hubert, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and close friends.
A public visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 7-9 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Grand Falls-Windsor. A funeral service will not be held at this time.
