Obituary

It is with great sadness but thanks for a life well lived, the family of Piney Small (nee Sheppard) announces her passing at the Long-Term Care Unit at the Baie Verte Peninsula Heath Care Hospital in her 95th year.

Left to hold dear lifetime of love and wonderful memories are her children; Gaye Paddock (Ralph), Lindsay Small (Cindy), and Lyndon Small (Roxane); grandchildren, Vanessa Paddock (Mitchell), Lexie and Ryan Small; Andrew (Sarah) and Ashton Small; great-grand daughter, Layla; special niece, Elaine Warren (Ron); sister, Ruby Sheppard; siblings-in-law, Ruby Hamlyn, Mabel Rice (Paul), Maxine Small and Patricia Small; Many nieces, nephews and a large circle of other extended relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Randolph; infant son, Oral; parents, Kenneth and Sylvia Sheppard; brother, John Hoddinott (Violet); sisters, Mary Sheppard (Wilson), Dorothy Fifield (Frank Goulding and Baxter), Rose Kinden (Mark), Myrtle Kinden (Ralph); parents-in-Law, George and Bessie Small; siblings-in-law; Malcolm Sheppard, Lillian Dawe (Edward), John Small (Elvie), Frances Small (Baxter), Mildred "Millie" Pardy (Warrick and Lester), Stewart Small, Allan Small (Joyce), Harold Small, Mark Small, Jean Small and Bert Hamlyn.

Piney was born and raised on Indian Island's. At the age of 17, she started her 6-year teaching career and taught at Indian Islands, Twillingate, Sops Arm, Hampden and Wild Cove. While teaching at Wild Cove, she met her future loving husband, Randolph. They were married for 62 years. After marrying, Piney managed the General Store, which also included runs to their gas pump and to the wharf weighing fish. She retired at the age of 75. She spent the last 2 years of her life at the Long-Term Care Unit at the Baie Verte Peninsula Heath Care Hospital, where she received great care from the staff there.  The family would like to thank them for their dedication, compassion and kindness. Piney lived a life of devotion to God, a genuine love of her family and others, touching their lives and leaving a positive impact.

The public visitation will take place at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL, on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 pm and Friday, January 24, 2025, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 1:00 from Trinity Pentecostal Church, Baie Verte, NL. The interment will follow at Wild Cove Pentecostal Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.
