It is with deep sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of Patrick Hurley, who left us suddenly on July 30, 2025, at the age of 65.

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories, wife Lorna, his children Justin (Leanne) and Jennifer (Roger) and the apples of his eye, his beloved grandchildren, Gavin, Madeline, Maëlle, Griffin and Logan, there is nothing in this world that brought him more joy than to spend time with his grandbabies, cheering them on in their sports, taking them out for ice creams and Big Marys, watching them perform on stage, going for Sunday drives or to the playground and just plain making sure they had everything they needed; siblings, twin brother Mike (Denise), Ray (Eileen), Jim (Sandy), Martin, Lorraine, Sheila (Greg), Kay (Ty), Kelly (Rick), Sharon (Melvin), Peggy (Stirling), Rose (Harry), Eileen, Jane (Dennis), sister-in-law Dottie Hurley and uncle Cyril Hurley and aunt Bea; Brothers-in-law Gary (Glenda) Piercey, Bob (Anita) Piercey; sisters-in-law Donna (Ford) Loveless and Paula (Myron) Bailey; as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

Pre-deceased by his parents, Michael and Mary Kate Hurley; parents-in-law Ralph and Doreen Piercey; brothers Jack, Steve and Larry(Scott); sisters Betty and Mary; brothers-in-law Ronald Kelly, Eddie Goldthorpe and Jerry Béliveau; sisters-in-law Melinda Hurley and Ellen Hurley.

Born on March 17, 1960 in Tilt Cove, Pat brought laughter, warmth, and a quick wit into the lives of everyone who knew him. A devoted husband, proud father, and beloved "Poppy," Pat's greatest joy was his family. He treasured every moment with them, often sharing stories, cracking jokes, and pulling out the crib board or dartboard for a friendly — and fiercely competitive — game. He enjoyed Saturday night card games with Lorna, and good friends Don, Glenda, Sharon and Fred. He also loved having a yarn in his shed with friends Pete, Dale Lane, Bruce, and Dale Drover.

Pat's early career was rooted in his love of communication and storytelling. He made his mark in local broadcasting at 68CIYQ and VOCM, where his voice and presence were fixtures in the community. Later, in his early thirties, Pat boldly shifted gears and became a Red Seal electrician, a trade that led him on adventures around the globe — from the shores of Bermuda, to the rugged landscapes of Norway, Alberta, and Nunavut. No matter how far his work took him, his heart was always with home.

A lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan, Pat was known to cheer (and grumble) with great passion through every season. He was also an avid HAM Radio operator, constantly tinkering and connecting with people from every corner of the world. From a young age, his children knew his name using the phonetic alphabet and call sign- PAPA ALPHA TANGO VO1YJ (now VO1PH). His sharp sense of humour, quick one-liners, and playful teasing made him the life of every gathering. Whether it was a round of darts, backgammon, or cribbage, Pat played to win — and to make you laugh while he did. Pat enjoyed the simple pleasures life had to offer, a cup of tea and a slice of buttered bread, feeding his cat Leo all the treats, finding the latest movie for his grandkids to watch or taking them shopping for "prizes" and schooling his children in backgammon and crib.

Pat will be remembered for his unwavering love, his incredible storytelling, his deep belly laughs, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humour, and generosity that will live on in all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please share a joke, play a game, or raise a glass in his memory — just the way he would have wanted.
