It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, & great-grandfather, Melvin Gordon Power on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the age of 73 years. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a short battle with illness.

Melvin is survived by his lifelong partner of 50 years, Inez (Regular); his loving children, Stephen (Rhonda), Sheldon (Nancy), Christina (Craig) Mackenzie; his adoring grandchildren, Braiden Power, Landyn Power, Jada Power, Harrison Mackenzie, Isaac Machenzie, & Graham Mackenzie; and his great-granddaughter, Deliah. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Ethel (Bill) Woodman; brothers, Lorne (Ann) Power, & Gerry (Donna) Power; in-laws, Bernice (Roy) Head, Nina Ryan, Nelson (Glenda) Regular, Rebecca (Murray) Burton, Alonzo (Lisa) Regular, Melina (Dave) Fudge, Arlene (Rex) Clements, & Carol (Janice) Regular; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Melvin is predeceased by his brothers, William (Alice) & Fred; father, Robert & mother, Lena; his in-laws Max and Marie Regular are welcoming him with open arms in heaven; brother-in-law, Cecil Ryan. He was a beloved brother-in-law, father-in-law, brother, uncle and cousin to many.

Melvin was born on September 19, 1951 in Carbonear, NL. At age16, Melvin was converted to Christ, baptized by the Holy Spirit in 1968 under the ministry or Pastor Barry Grimes. At the age of 17, he felt the calling to become a minister. In 1969 Melvin went to Peterbough, ON to attend Eastern Pentecostal Bible College. In 1972 he graduated and moved back to Newfoundland and started his first Pastoral Ministry in Little Hearts Ease, at the age of 20 years. Melvin became an ordained minister with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1974 and he devoted 54 years to different churches over Newfoundland & Ontario.  One of his favorite things to do while in ministry over the years was baby dedications.  He would walk around the church with the baby to show them off. At the conclusion of each dedication he would present them with a personalized written letter for them to open at the age of 12 years.  He finished his ministry in Badger, NL.

In 1973 Melvin saw Inez Regular at Emmanuel Pentecostal Campground in St. John's, NL and came up with every reason to keep walking past her. When camp ended in July they kept in touch through letters where their romance grew.  That Christmas Melvin asked Inez to join him for Christmas in Carbonear, NL where he asked Inez to marry him. His love for Inez was unlike any other.  True love that span almost 51 years of marriage. He called her a model wife, mother, grandmother, and a model Pastor in her own right.  She was his strength and confident.

He was in incredible father to his two sons and one daughter.  Every summer he would make sure to take his family on vacations where many memories were made.  His grandchildren adored and loved to have a good laugh with him.

Melvin had the absolute largest kindest caring heart. He loved being out and contributing to any community he was a part of.

His love for animals began when his childhood dog Butch and all of her puppies. Through his entire life he always had at least one pet at home to love.

He loved going berry picking, playing the piano, loved going for coffee with friends, and loved to have a good laugh. He also had a great passion to do bible studies and to preach where his preaching was always filled with humour, intentional or not.

He will be forever loved and missed by all who loved him.

In keeping with his wishes there will be no public visitation.

The funeral service will take place Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM from Windsor Pentecostal Church, 97 King Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL with Pastor Bill Harnum officiating.  The funeral service will be live streamed from the Windsor Pentecostal Church Facebook Page CLICK HERE .

The internment will follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Badger, NL.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Faith Covenant Pentecostal Church Memorial Fund or the Faith Covenant Cemetery Fund.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
