Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Olivia Lucy Hewlett announces her passing on April 18, 2026 at the Lionel Kelland Hospice, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL aged 98 years.

Olivia (Livvie to most) was born in Southern Arm, NL on October 22, 1927. She moved to
Seal Cove, White Bay at 6 years old to go to school. Olivia was the second oldest of six
children. She would love to tell stories of her fun and mischievous childhood. Playing tricks
and getting into trouble with her younger sister, Elizabeth. Olivia's strong work ethic began at
the young age of 14. She went to service with a family in Wild Cove, NL. At the age of 16,
Olivia moved to Baie Verte, NL. She worked in the staff house as a housekeeper and within
a short while, she was charmed by Augustus Hewlett and they fell in love and married on
June 18, 1945. The creation of her loving family began. Together they raised seven children,
Stuart Rex (1947), Ella Gail (1950), Doyle George (1954), Otto Augustus (1956), Dianne
Mabel (1965), Kimberley Joy (1968), Debbie Irene (1970). They were married for 63 years.
Her family was her life.

Olivia was a lifetime member of the United Church Women. She cherished her church family
who loved and supported each other and with them, served the community.
In 1954, Olivia began to house boarders. She served many for approximately 20 years and
still today we meet former boarders who will share stories of their time spent at the Hewlett
boarding house and the delicious meals prepared by her hard-working hands.
Olivia was taught to knit at a very young age and it became her lifelong passion. Not only did
she love to knit for her family and friends, she also knit for three companies (Nonia being
one of them) so no doubt, her works of art are all over the world. Olivia was known for her
tireless dedication in the kitchen, where she lovingly baked bread that nourished many,
especially her family and home.
