Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Norman Stewart Jacobs announces his passing, Norman passed away at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte, NL on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 at the age of 82 years.

Norman was born in Westport on February 12, 1939. He married Ruby Jacobs and they shared 6 children, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Norman was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His family was his top priority, he strived to provide, to ensure his family was always well taken care of. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and welcomed everyone with open arms.

Norman was a master of all skills and trades and excelled at any job he attempted. He worked as a master plumber, carpenter, builder and miner amongst others. His work ethic, was second to none. He took great pride in everything he done. He was always open to new challenges and decided to return to college to complete his high school diploma at the age of 79 and graduated within a year. This was a lifelong dream, once he set his mind on a goal, he accomplished it with great determination.

Norman was a true outdoorsmen and thoroughly enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, and fur trapping. He also enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Flat Waters. He followed curling and enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with family and friends

Norman is predeceased by his parents – Ernest and Florence Jacobs; parents-in-law – Cyril and Susanna Jacobs; brothers – Raymond Jacobs and Eric Jacobs (Shirley); sister – Marjorie Regular (Ted); siblings-in-law – Herbert Jacobs, Walter Jacobs, Harvey Jacobs, Baxter Jacobs, Gerald Jacobs (Shirley), Alex Jacobs, Lucy Jacobs, Blanche Hurley (Alex), Audrey Hewitt (John) and George Hewitt.

Left with fond and loving memories is his wife of 59 years – Ruby Jacobs, Westport, NL; children – Mona Hewitt (Ewart), Tumbler Ridge, BC, Susan Pilgrim (Larry), King's Point, NL, Marion Applewaithe (Monty), Toronto, ON, Lisa Gale (Robert), Westport, NL, David Jacobs (Sharon), Hopeall, NL, Lorraine Giordano (Carmine), Loretto, ON; grandchildren – Gregory (Sherri Lynn), Dawn (Frankie), Maxwell (Stephanie), Christopher (Kayla), Adrian, Jonathan, Larry (Sarah), Ryan (Danielle), Ashley, Melissa and Amanda; great-grandchildren – Tyler, Amber, Logan, Emma, Riley, Addison, Dylan, Brandon, Lena, Joshua and Serena; siblings – Agnes Hewitt, Dulcie Hewitt, Hilda Jacobs, Allan Jacobs (Elizabeth); siblings-in-law – Sophie Jacobs, Millie Hewitt, Ethel Jacobs and Patricia Jacobs, along with a large number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Public Visitation took place from St. Peter's Anglican Church, Westport NL on Friday, September 3rd, 2021 from 2:00-4:00PM and 7:00-9:00PM.

Reverend George Critchell, assisted by Reverend Madonna Boone conducted the Funeral Service at St. Peters Anglican Church, Westport, NL on Saturday, September 4th, 2021 at 12:00PM, following specific guidelines pertaining to the global pandemic and associated restrictions. Interment followed at St. Peter's Anglican Cemetery, Westport.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations may be made in Norman's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1037 Topsail Rd, Mount Pearl, NL A1N 5E9.

Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Foster Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.
