It is with great sadness that the family of the late Monica Theresa Bonia announces her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL aged 92 years.
Monica leaves to mourn with memories her step-children, Elizabeth Cole & Jim Bonia; plus a circle of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives & friends.
Monica is predeceased by her parents, Leo & Amelia Maddox; husband, Jim Bonia; brothers, Michael (Mary) & Jim; sisters, Lorraine (Cornelius) & Catherine (Dominic); sister-in-law, Sister Helen Bonia; nephews, Tony & Dominic; stepsons, John & Dave Bonia.
Born in 1932, she was a leap year baby. At the age of 23, she entered the Order of Mercy Sisters. While in the Convent, she served in a number of Parishes and Schools throughout Newfoundland. After leaving the Convent, she taught for a few years and met her husband, Jim in 1974. They married July 24, 1976. During their marriage, they travelled and did a lot of camping throughout Newfoundland. She also shared a love of knitting, sewing and had a love of music. She was in the Cathedral Choir and travelled to Rome, Italy in 1989 and sang for Pope John Paul II.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hollett's Retirement Home, nurses and staff at Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre for their care given to Monica during her stay. Sincere appreciation to Iris Walsh, Yvonne Courtney, Glenn Harnum, stepdaughter Doctor Elizabeth Cole who could not be here during this difficult time.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
The public visitation will take place Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 2-4 & 7-9 pm from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 11 am from The Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 8 Church Road, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
The interment will follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
