Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Minnie (Budgell) Compton, on March 24, 2022 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre in Botwood, NL.

Minnie is predeceased by parents, James and Alice; husband Doug; sister Louise; half siblings, Gertrude, William, Edgar, Jane and Fred; sisters-in-law, Ruby Parsons, Winnie Mews, Rose Burry and Sylvia Woolridge; in-laws, Stella and Charles Compton.

Left to celebrate her life with cherished memories are daughters, Beverly (Ivan) Warford of Point Leamington, NL, Kimberly (Brian) Samson of Moncton, NB; sons, Ray (Renee) of Paradise, NL and Brian (Jolene) of Bishop's Falls, NL; grandchildren, Matthew, Kendra, Lydia, Becca, Sarah, Joshua, and Jordan.  Her special great-grandchildren, Finn, Paige and the youngest, Tessa" Minnie" Jean who were the light of her life.

Apart from her family, mom's house was always full of her many close friends.  She loved to entertain and was well known for her baking, especially fruit cakes and pies.  She absolutely never turned down an opportunity for a game of cards or scrabble.  She was very much a people person and preferred sitting on her front deck with a view of the street over a scenic water view in the back so she could chat with neighbours and friends who passed by.

Minnie was born in Bobby's Cove, NL in 1932.  She grew up in Point Leamington following the death of her mother when she was just two years old.  Raised by her Nanny, Annie, and her father, James, who had relocated to Point Leamington, NL. Mom left Point Leamington in her late teens to work "in-service" with the MacDonald's in Botwood.   A close friend, Goldie Evans, introduced her to our dad in the early 50s.  They were married in 1954 and were together until his death in 2001.

Mom… We will always think of you with love. We know that you are finally at peace. You had a good 89 years surrounded by family and friends.

Special appreciation to all her friends for their continued support over the years, her home support workers, the staff of Lanes Retirement Home and the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre for their excellent care.  Also Dr. Woolfrey who was her idol for many years!

The public visitation will take place Sunday March 27, 2022 at 2-6 pm from Botwood Funeral Home. 147 Commonwealth Drive, Botwood, NL.
