It is with grieving hearts that the family of the late Mervin Sacrey announces his passing. Mervin passed away peacefully at the Central Newfoundland Regional Hospital, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Sunday, August 22nd, 2021 at the age of 77 years.
Mervin was born at Pacquet, NL on July 13th, 1944 to Roland and Joyce Sacrey. As a young man he met and married Florence Cole and they shared 53 years together, raising their two children, Jeffrey and Vincent.
Mervin's working career started at a very young age, fishing down the northern shore. He later pursued other careers where he worked as a Heavy Duty Mechanic and was proud to be called a Drill Doctor. Mervin's work took him from northern Canada to Kazakhstan and many points in between.
Since retiring and moving to Grand Falls Mervin was heavily involved in his local church and could be seen around town volunteering his time on the Salvation Army Kettles. He also enjoyed daily walks and sitting chatting and having coffee with friends.
Mervin is predeceased by his parents – Roland and Joyce Sacrey; parents-in-law – Cecil and Verena Cole; siblings – Claude Sacrey and Beatrice Atkinson; siblings-in-law – Clarence Whalen, Earl Babb, Reginald Cole, Raymond Perry and Thomas Cole; niece – Dawn Atkinson.
Left with fond and loving memories is his wife – Florence Sacrey; children – Jeffrey Sacrey (Lori-Ann) and Vincent Sacrey (Kim); grandchildren – Rhyder and Tye Sacrey; step-grandchildren – Bailey and Coedy; siblings – Vera Whalen, Tony Sacrey (Juanita), Vivian Cole, Calvin Sacrey (Pamela), Pratt Sacrey (Violet) and Kevin Sacrey (Brenda); siblings-in-law – Virginia Babb, Mabel Perry, Olive Sacrey and James Atkinson; special niece – Tobie Cole (Paula), along with a large number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Private Visitation took place at First United Church, Pacquet, NL.
Reverend Sidney Newbury conducted a Private Family Funeral Service at First United Church, Pacquet, NL on Thursday, August 26th, 2021 at 2:00PM. Interment followed at First United Church Cemetery, Pacquet, NL.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mervin's memory to the Lionel Kelland Hospice, Presentation Centre, 3 Catherine Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL A2A 1V7.
