Mary Rhoda
Elliott
Sep 18, 1936 — Feb 18, 2024
Botwood
It is with sadness that the family of the late Mary Rhoda Elliott announces her passing at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood, NL, aged 87 years.
Mary leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children, Brett (Margaret), Wade (Rosalinde), & Mark (Deborah); grandchildren, Erica (Ben), Melanie, Meaghan, Jackson, Samuel, & Jane; great-grandchildren, Nora & Cruse; as well as other relatives and friends.
Mary is predeceased by her husband, Bemister George Elliott.
Mary Elliott had a love for community and connection that was unlike any other. Mary understood community to be boundless, she loved neighbours, the United Church and choir, Botwood business owners, those who most others would consider strangers, friends, and family all the same. She would go out of her way to bake cakes, prepare pizzas, attend events, lend a hand with fundraising opportunities, or just join a friend for a walk when one was needed. The only people she reserved that extra ounce of love for was her three boys, Brett, Wade, and Mark. They filled her life with so much pride and joy, she couldn't help but tell everyone she met about them. The boys learned how to nurture community and their love of food from their Mom. Even though Mary could cook a mean meal, her tastes were not always so elite, she also appreciated ending her night with a Canada Dry Ginger Ale (her chosen cocktail) and a KitKat Chunky, a preference she has passed down to her adoring grandchildren. Mary will undoubtedly be missed by many, wandering down Marine Drive won't quite feel the same without her presence, but we know that she will meet us in her gazebo for a chat and a drink on the other side.
Special thanks to family friends Winston Gill and Jean Edison who always cared for Mary when the rest of us couldn't be there.
In her final years, Florence and the rest of the Lanes Retirement Living, as well as the staff at the Twomey Centre, cared for Mary as if she were family, we will always be grateful for that.
