It is with broken hearts that the family of the late James "Jamie" Michael Matthews announces his passing from the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, aged 53 years.

James Michael Matthews was born on December 6, 1969 in La Scie, NL to Joan and John Matthews. Known to his family and friends as Jamie or Jim.

He started his working life as a fisherman. Later he went to work at a fish plant in New Brunswick. He then moved to Lloydminster where he worked for several years at Kal Tire and Apex. He finally decided to come back home and he got employment at G&C Hardware where he worked until his illness.

He will be missed by his family and friends.

Left with fond and loving memories are his parents, John and Joan Matthews; his sister, Judith Critch (Max); his brother, John Matthews (Osena); niece, Katlyn Matthews (Glenn); nephew, Karson Matthews, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

James is predeceased by his grandparents, Michael and Ellen Matthews & Harry and Lydia Andrews.

There will be no public visitations.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place from St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, La Scie, NL on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 1 pm, with Father Anthony Aikins officiating. The public is invited to attend. Interment will follow from St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Cemetery, La Scie, NL.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations may be made in James' memory to St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church.
