Obituary

It is with broken hearts the family of the late Harold Ralph Bussey wishes to announce that Harold entered into eternal sleep with family surrounding him from the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Center, Acute Care, Baie Verte, NL on Thursday, November 2023 at the age of 88 years.

Harold was born in St. Lunaire, NL on a summer's day in August 1935 to Solomon and Elsie Bussey.

The third born of eleven siblings and one of eight teachers, Harold began his teaching career in Ship Cove, NL on the Great Northern Peninsula. Later in life, Harold's teaching career brought him to Pacquet, NL and then to Woodstock, NL.

Harold also worked at Milley's Store in Pacquet during the summer months. Seeing that Harold was a dedicated worker, he was approached by Gid Sacrey and went to work for Gid Sacrey Limited as a store manager, where he worked for 30+ years before his retirement.

On April 6, 1961 he married his first wife, Marian Bowers. Together they had two children Donna and Floyd. A few short years into their family life, the family experienced a tragic accident, Harold and Donna were left alone.

On June 27, 1978 he married Melvina Mitchell and together they raised four children.

Harold had a love for gardening, fishing and Rook! It wasn't uncommon to find him in the fishing boat with his white shirt and tie, fish up to his elbows. He shared his love of Rook with his family; Saturday nights were spent in competitive games and his children share that love to this very day. During his earlier life, he loved to dance in his living room to Harry Hibb tunes. The town's people knew of his ability of dealing with numbers and money, when tax season rolled around the kitchen table was filled with tax documents from many community members.
