Gerard Joseph
Smith
Nov 17, 1947 — Jul 1, 2026
Grand Falls-Windsor
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gerard (Gerry) Joseph Smith announce his peaceful passing at the Dr. Lionel Kelland Hospice at the age of 78 years.
Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are his devoted wife of 36 years, Beverly; daughter, Melanie; stepson, Christopher; beloved grandson, Micah Mouland; his favourite niece, Lisa (Ron) Simms; Marlene (Frank) Hanlon; brother-in-law, Trevor (Dawn) Froude; along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends.
Gerry was predeceased by his daughter, Ursula; his parents, James and Bernadette Smith; and his brother, Jim.
Gerry dedicated 36 years of service to the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development before retiring in 2007. Throughout his life, he had a keen interest in health and fitness and possessed an unending thirst for knowledge. He was an active and devoted member of Toastmasters International, where he greatly enjoyed learning, public speaking, and the fellowship of its members.
Gerry will be fondly remembered for his wonderful storytelling and his endless supply of jokes—many of which his family, friends, and co-workers happily heard more than once. He found great enjoyment in golfing, taking walks with his faithful dog, Tess, and treasured the memories of Bing, their first rescue dog. Gerry also had a well-known love of shopping on Amazon, something that always brought a smile to those who knew him.
Gerry embraced life with enthusiasm, humour, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him, but his memory will forever remain in their hearts.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to the Dr. Lionel Kelland Hospice. Donate Here
