Geraldine Mary
Burton
Dec 31, 1938 — Jul 21, 2021
Grand Falls-Windsor
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Geraldine Burton, after a brief illness on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. Mom passed away, surrounded by family and friends, at the Carmelite House Palliative Care Unit just 5 short months after our father, Emerson. We feel sure that Dad was there with open arms to meet her as she had missed him terribly.
Leaving to mourn with loving memories her sons, Larry (Shelly), and Jeff, daughter Lisa (Vince Dawe); grandchildren Mark Dawe & Stephanie Dawe (Darrell); Sydney (Nick) & Jacob Burton; Liam & Tara Burton; great-grandchildren Brooklyn & Morgan; her siblings Floss Paul and Dorothy Knight; sisters-in-law Ellen Burton, Mae (Nelson) Coffin & Clara White as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.
She was pre-deceased by our father, Emerson (March 2021), daughter-in-law Roxanne (Oliver) Burton (2013), her parents James & Marcella Reid, her siblings Greta Knight, Jim Reid and Francis Reid; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edgar & Louisa Burton, and siblings-in-law Gladys, Nina, Olive, Cyril & Harvey.
Family was very important to Mom and nothing gave her greater pleasure than to see all of us come through her door and stay, talk and laugh for awhile as we sat around the table eating the meals that she had lovingly prepared for us. She loved all of us unconditionally. She was a kind, generous woman and a loving mother who was good not only to her own family but to many others as well, especially those in need.
For many years, she was a familiar face to the many customers of B & W Meats as she worked beside our dad in the family business.
Mom loved to knit and she gave away more of her knitting than she kept for herself. Her pot cloths have travelled from Newfoundland to British Columbia and many points in between, and they've even travelled to Ireland.
We want to thank her home care workers who were so good and kind to her over the past few years. She also considered you friends and she looked forward to seeing you every day and she was very appreciative of the care shown to both her and to dad. Thank you to the nursing staff and doctors of the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, and to the nurses, doctors and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Carmelite House for the kindness, respect and care given to mom and to our family during this very difficult time.
As per Mom's wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no viewing. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley St., Grand-Falls-Windsor, NL.
