Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, poppy, brother and friend George Champion on May 24, 2023; surrounded by his loving family at the Health Science Center.  He was 58.

George was born November 1, 1964 in Grand Falls-Windsor and is predeceased by loving parents Joseph and Shirley Champion and brothers-in-law Jim Palmer and Sidney Hollett.

He was blessed with a large loving family, Joe (Diane), Cavell (Fred), Dianne, Lisa (Perry), and Lori (Rob). Nieces and Nephews: (Joe's) Charlene, Melissa and Jennifer; (Cavell's) Bradley, Shauna and Andrea; (Dianne's) Andrew, (Lisa's) Sarah and Emily; Lori's (Mariah).

His early passion for the outdoors was never challenged even when his mother had to surgically remove a fish hook from his ear at the tender age of 9.  His brother Joe introduced George to fishing at a very young age and his passion for the sport grew from there.  His vast array of fishing buddies continued to grow and included his children and grandchildren.  To those who were planning fishing trips with him, know this…. he will continue to cast from heaven, and keep a tight line.

On July 2, 1988 he married the love of his life, Tina Hulan of Jeffrey's.  He leaves to mourn his wife, and two beautiful daughters Kimberley (Dave) and Kayla (Jamie); grandchildren who were his best friends include: Connor, James, Izabella, Greyson, Addison and Gabrielle

After college George's career as an Iron Worker and then later as an Industrial Painter allowed him to enjoy working across Canada and in most recent years across Newfoundland and Labrador.  He felt so proud to participate in projects that were important to NL and our future generations.  George collected his work buddies like some people collect stickers…. it was always so important to him to check in with his "buddies", just to say, "how are you? or what are you at?

George will also be missed by his many loving aunts, uncles and cousins, his extended family which included many brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews…. The memory of his larger-than-life presence, the touch from his gentle hand, his loving smile, his great love will be comfort for all of us who are left behind.  May God bless him and keep him until we see him again.
