Obituary

Garland Rice (Gar) aged 87 passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026.

Gar will be remembered as a happy, generous man, he loved people and enjoyed  joking,  teasing, having a laugh and telling stories, (mostly tall tales).  He loved his life and his community, he was exactly where he wanted to be, doing what he wanted and loved to do.

He valued people and nature over money or things, in fact he was a man who never had a dollar in his pocket, never wrote a cheque or used a bank card. He felt like he had everything he needed and always had something to give away, especially his vegetables and fish.

He loved and cherished his family, his friends, his garden, the Montreal Canadians and berry picking. He was a logger, a trapper, a hunter, a fisherman and a prospector, he loved to share his bounty, his knowledge, his experience and always ready to lend an helping hand.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his 5 brothers and 4 sister and his son Carson.

He will be lovingly remembered  and missed by his wife Jessie, his children Kelly (Terry) Jody ( Brian), Rick (Patricia) Rhonda and Darlene. His grandchildren Troy, Amy, Alanna, Mitchell, Skylar, Riley and Jada, his great grand children Leo and Vera, his sister in laws Effie and Eileen, his many nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

The public visitation will take place Friday, June 5, 2026, from 2:00PM  to 4:00PM  &  6:00PM to 8:00PM  from St. Peter's Anglican Church, Westport, NL.
