Eileen Anne
Barry
Sep 14, 1938 — Apr 24, 2022
Grand Falls-Windsor
Eileen Anne Barry passed peacefully on April 24, 2022, lovingly surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Eileen was born in Bishop's Falls to the late William and Levina Hynes. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend of over 60 years, Thomas Barry; her daughter, Michelle (Mike); her son, Brian (Nancy); her cherished grandchildren, Vanessa (Jonathan), Laura (Matthew), and Emily; and her special step-grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Evan) and Gillian.
Eileen was one of four children, who share an especially close bond, and is survived by her brother, Jerome (Shirley); her brother, Harold (Carol Ann); and her sister, Lorraine (Mike). She is also survived by her loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and very special neighbours.
Blessed with both a gentle manner and strong will, Eileen was a pillar of kindness, always putting the needs of others before herself. She could do anything – from quilting and knitting to tickling the ivories to tech-savvy browsing for the latest recipes. She always loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals and sweets for family and friends, and was known for her world-class homemade jam. Eileen was a brilliant woman ahead of her time and was the first call for many in need of advice. She was our pseudo-doctor and compass for navigating all of life's challenges.
Above all else, Eileen was most proud of her family. Nothing made her happier than spending time with the ones she held dear. Eileen will be deeply missed by so many, but her legacy of kindness, strength, and candour will live on through all who had the honour of knowing her.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Grand Falls-Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, the Regional Palliative Care Consultants, and the palliative staff at the Carmelite House for treating Eileen with such dignity and compassion.
There will be no visitation or memorial service at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eileen's memory can be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre or the Lionel Kelland Hospice in Grand Falls-Windsor.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
