It is with saddened hearts that the family of the late Donald "Donny" Stephen Young announces his passing at his home in Baie Verte, NL on September 21, 2023 after losing his 13-month battle with cancer.

Donny was born in Lourdes, NL to Ethel and Lawrence Young on December 19, 1954. At the age of eight, the family moved to Stephenville Crossing. At age 20 he ended up in Baie Verte where he met Dot whom he chose to spend the rest of his life with. Together they raised two sons, Steven and Sheldon and have lived in Baie Verte, Stephenville Crossing and Tumbler Ridge, BC.

Donny worked most of his life as a truck driver. He was never one to be idle. He hobbled on one leg with a chainsaw better than anyone with two legs. One of the great loves of his life was hunting, he could see a moose miles off and smell them even further. He thoroughly enjoyed ski-dooing, riding on quad, spending time at the cabin with his friends. He lived for good times, loved to laugh, joke, listen to people playing accordion, guitar, and singing. And we will never forget how he enjoyed his food.

He was not an educated man, but had a willingness and patience to teach others the things he knew, like the different types of trees, how to ride a ski-doo, and how to snare and skin a rabbit.

Donny was thoughtful and caring, he took great pleasure in giving his time, and any material possessions he had to those he loved. He would give the shirt off his back, whether he needed it or not.

Donny will be remembered for his hearty laugh, his unwavering manners, determination, courage, and wonderful outlook on life, despite his immense heartache of losing both his sons.

He leaves to remember him with fond and loving memories, his wife, Dot Young (Burton); grandson, Jesse; mother, Ethel; siblings, Lorraine, Ronald, Genetia, Wayne, Caron, Cathy and Sean; also, a number of siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews, and a circle of friends too large to mention.

Donny is predeceased by his sons, Sheldon Young and Steven Young; father, Lawrence.

Dot would like to thank the pallative care nurse, Ruth for being at our beckon call during his illness, also her sister Roxanne Burton for being their "rock" right from day one.
