Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Cora Eileen Newbury announces her passing at the Valley Vista Long Term Care Facility, Springdale, NL, aged 86 years.

Cora was born in Burlington on November 1, 1939. On November 29, 1955, she married the love of her life, John. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared many happy memories together. Cora was a great homemaker who loved to cook and bake, making many delicious meals and treats for her family. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, knitting, and berry picking. She and her grandson, Grant, walked many kilometres together and spent endless hours together; Grant will miss her terribly. She loved visits from her family and will be loved and missed forever.

Cora leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Neil (Barbara) of Burlington, NL; Diane (Lloyd) of Burlington, NL; Michael (Doris) of Freshwater, NL; and Angela of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jonathan (Lori-Ann) of Baie Verte; Jennifer (Jacey) of Stephenville; Grant of Burlington; Jordan (Mandie) of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL; and Daniel of St. John's, NL; as well as her great-grandchildren Ethan, William, Luke, and Levi. She will be dearly missed by her sisters Joan Parsons (Roger) of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, and Ivy Harnett (Roy) of Lewisporte, NL; her brother Paul King (Ellen) of Harry's Harbour, NL; and a circle of special cousins and friends.
Cora is predeceased by her husband, John; two children, Donna and Robert; her biological mother, Hazel King (Fred) of Harry's Harbour, NL; her sister Margaret England (Caleb) of Harry's Harbour; her sister-in-law Jean Bowers (Albert); and her grandparents Emma and William Newbury, by whom she was raised and loved dearly in Burlington, NL.

As per the family's request there will be no public viewing.

Public funeral service will take place from Faith Pentecostal Church, Burlington, NL on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Trevor Deering officiating. Interment will follow from Greenwood Cemetery, Burlington, NL.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.
