It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we, the Family, announce the passing of our mother Clara Elizabeth Howse (Cooper) on September 22, 2020 at the age of 88. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family and caregivers. Mom was a devoted wife, loving mother, wonderful grandmother(nan) & great-grandmother.

Left to mourn are her children; sons,  Robert (Emma), Cecil (Mona); daughters, Gail (Dennis), and Kimberly (Stewart); grandchildren; Jeffrey (Joanne), Jennifer (Paul), Conrad(Toni-Lynn), Kayla (Eddie), Kristen, & Liam (Mikaela); great-grandchildren; Megan, Kolby, Kaylee, Broyden, Molly, Finley, Brooklyn, Lilly-Ann, & Jasper; as well as a large circle of extended family & friends will also undoubtedly share in her loss.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Milton (Mick); parents, Edward & Ethel Cooper; brothers, Allan, Fred, Sam, Edward, Harvey, Cecil & Nelson; sisters, Dorothy and Gertrude.

Clara was born in Windsor, NL, June 25, 1932 and married the love of her life Milton (Mick) in 1952. Clara worked throughout her years, starting with Royal Stores, and many years at Dominion where she eventually retired. She was actively involved in the Salvation Army Park Street Citadel, Home League (Women's Ministries), Community Care Ministry, Ladies Bible Study and Songster Brigade.

Our mom will be fondly remembered and missed for her gift of hospitality and her love for entertaining; always welcoming family and friends.  Whenever you dropped into our home, you could always expect a cup of tea, home baked cookies, bread and she would always say " Now why don't you stay for dinner ". She enjoyed a great game of UNO with brother Cecil and friends, loved watching hockey (Maple Leafs) and watching a good wrestling match with her grandchildren. She enjoyed trips to Toronto and her favourite holiday-Christmas; the festive lights, gift-giving and a reason to have a crowd in.

Because of this difficult disease, at times our mom didn't know who we were, but we knew who she was. Sadly, in some ways we lose them long before they actually leave us.

There is one thing Alzheimer's cannot take away, and that is love. Love is not a memory - it's a feeling that resides in your heart and soul.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of Eastern Health Long Term Care where for the past 5 years, Clara received exceptional care and compassion.

There be a visitation Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 10 am - 12 pm from The Salvation Army Park Street Citadel.  The funeral service will take place Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 2 pm from The Salvation Army Park Street Citadel with Majors Peter & Janice Rowe officiating. Please contact the church office to register for the service, 709-489-4432. The interment will follow at The Salvation Army Caribou Road Cemetery, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
