It brings us great sadness to announce that Charles Joseph Courtney passed peacefully away on December 29, 2019 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Center, Botwood, NL, aged 77 years young.

He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary (Dunphy); sister, Dorothy Barry.

Leaving to mourn with loving, fun-filled memories are his wife, Marilyn (Dalley); son, Peter (Melinda); daughter, Myra (Trevor Budgell); beloved grandsons, Matthew and Nicholas; brothers, Tom (Yvonne); Bill, & Joe; sisters, Rose (Andrew Benoit), and Bride; brothers-in-law Neville (Faye), Angus (Marlene), Edgar (Joan); sisters-in-law, Carilyn (Bill McBurney), Ellen (Larry Jones), and Jennifer (Brian Hemeon); as well as many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends.

Charles retired as a machinist from Abitibi Consolidated in 1999.  After he retired, he enjoyed fixing and building things for family in his workshop.  He had a passion for bringing old, often discarded items, back to life.  He spent the rest of his time with his soul-mate, Marilyn, his puppy, Spot and dog-sitting his grand-puppies or as he liked to call them, his side-kicks, Cailey and Bella. Charlie was always the life of a party.  He loved to tell jokes, of which he knew many, and make people laugh.  He always had a love of dancing and he and Marilyn often did the jive while listening to the 'oldies' in the kitchen.  He was also a big sports fan, often staying up late to watch the Bruins or the Blue Jays.  When his children were younger, he volunteered his time as a minor hockey coach, referee and umpire.  He continued to make it to the stadium to watch his grandsons play for the past 17 years.  He also volunteered his time as a former Kinsmen member and was still an active member of the Knights of Columbus.  He and Marilyn were faithful members of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Parish where he and the 'boys' would chat it up outside before service began every Sunday.

In keeping with Charlie's wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.  A 'Celebration of Life' will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Saint John the Baptist Church or to the Canadian Heart Association.
