Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Cathy Bernice Ricketts announces her passing in Westport, NL on Saturday, May 2, 2026, aged 35 years.

Left with loving memories is her husband Shannon Jacobs; her daughter Allie Jacobs; her stepchildren, Riley and Kiana Jacobs; mother and father, Cluney & Naomi Ricketts; brothers, Cogan Ricketts (Trish), Julian Ricketts (Megan), Justin Ricketts (Lera); grandmother, Sophie Jacobs; mother-in-law & stepfather-in-law, Bonnie & Rex Jacobs; father-in-law Harvey Rideout (Donna); brother-in-law, Trevor Rideout; sisters-in-law, Courtney Morgan (Mark), Melinda Parsons, Anita Gavin (Mike); nieces and nephews Corey, Cole, Courtney, Penny, Lola and Cooper along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Cathy was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, sister, Aunt and friend—a light in the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her artistic spirit, her strength, and the way she made others feel seen, loved, and valued.

Born on June 25, 1990, in Baie Verte, Newfoundland and Labrador, Cathy was the youngest of four children of Cluney and Naomi Ricketts. She was deeply loved by her three older brothers—Cogan, Julian, and Justin—who adored their baby sister more than anything.

Cathy had a remarkable gift for creativity. She was a talented artist, with a passion for drawing, and studied as a digital animator and web designer at the college in Stephenville NL. Her imagination and talent brought beauty into the world and touched everyone who saw her work.

Above all, Cathy was a devoted and loving mother to her beautiful daughter, Allie Sophia Jacobs, who was born with a genetic condition called San Filippo, which is terminal, whom she loved beyond words. Allie was her heart, her purpose, and her greatest joy. Cathy was also the beloved wife of Shannon Jacobs, and a stepmother to Riley and Kiana Jacobs whom she loved.

Cathy shared many meaningful friendships throughout her life, from her childhood friend Ashley to her college friends, and especially her treasured friendship with Lori, who held a special place in her heart.

Like all of us, Cathy had her moments—she could be strong-willed and sometimes rebellious—but through it all, her love for her family never wavered, and their love for her never faltered.

A private viewing for immediate family only, will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

A service to honour and celebrate Cathy's life will be held on May 8, 2026 at 2:00PM  at the Fire hall in Westport. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.

As we remember Cathy, we also hold close her greatest legacy—her daughter, Allie. We ask that we continue to surround Allie with love, care, and support, just as Cathy always did.

Though her time with us was far too short, Cathy's love will remain in our hearts forever. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations may be made for Allie's care in life.  justinsricketts@gmail.com
