It is with great sadness that the family of Carl Nathan Saunders announces his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Friday, December 30 , 2022 at the age of 73.
Carl was born April 16, 1949 to Nathan and Harriett Saunders of Point Leamington, NL. He married the love of his life, Bonzie, in 1968, and they were blessed with three wonderful children. Carl began his career with the Department of Works, Services and Transportation Point Leamington depot in 1969 and retired from the Grand Falls-Windsor depot after a fulfilling 35 year career. He went on to spend a portion of his retirement years serving as Superintendent for Bayley Developments. Never shy with his thoughts, Carl was certain to entertain you with his opinions, and left all he interacted with smiling and cheery.
Left to mourn with the fondest of memories are his loving wife of 54 years, Bonzie; children, Josephine Saunders (Richard Normand), Joanne (Derek) Thomas, and Greg (Lori) Saunders; grandchildren, Aaron Thomas, Jordan Saunders, Joshua Saunders, Skylar Martin and Jamie-Lee Saunders; siblings, Phyllis Brett, Watson (Betty) Saunders, Barry (Pauline) Saunders, and Colleen (Roy) Langdon; and sister-in-law, Betty Saunders, along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Carl is predeceased by parents, Nathan and Harriett Saunders ; brother, Roy Saunders; his beloved granddaughter, Rebecca Thomas; and brother-in-law, Victor Brett.
Visitation will occur at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Monday, January 2, 2023 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00pm.
Funeral service to be conducted by Major s Fred and Louise Pond at the Salvation Army, Grand Falls Citadel, on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 2 pm.
Anyone who will be attending the visitation or funeral service are asked to please wear a face mask.
