We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother, Leatrice Mitchell, who passed away peacefully at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre on January 10, 2023 at the age of 76.
Leatrice was born on September 4th 1946, to Elizabeth "Lizzie" and the late Samuel Decker in Woodstock, Newfoundland. She married the love of her life, Gid Mitchell on September 23, 1964 and together they shared 58 years and three boys, Percy, Keith and Corey, until his death late last year.
Leatrice had a passion for cooking, crafting, and baking. She would often spend her time creating beautiful flower arrangements, or fixing together a spread of baked breads, pies, and buns. She loved the time she spent baking and creating for her family. Her love for the kitchen and arts would later be passed down through her children and grandchildren. Leatrice was also a member of the Home League in Woodstock, a Sunday School teacher at the Salvation Army Church in Woodstock and worked at the fish plant.
Leatrice is predeceased by her husband Gidues "Gid" Mitchell, and father, Samuel Decker, her mother and father-in-law, Rosie and Dorman Mitchell, her sisters-in-law, Nina Decker and Eva Randell (Eddie) and brother-in-law, Guy Mitchell (Ann).
Left to mourn a lifetime of memories are her sons, Percy, Keith, and Corey Mitchell (Julie), and her beloved mother, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Decker, and her brother, Howard Decker (Gladys). She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Cassandra Mitchell, Alex Mitchell (Liz), Parker Mitchell (Chevonne), Sarah Mitchell-Bush (Jay), Brianna Mitchell (Matt), Amy Mitchell (Brodie), Ethan Mitchell (Hanna), Eva-Rae Mitchell, and Kyle Mitchell, her great-grandchildren Madison, Isabella, AJ, Jaidyn, Charlotte, Jaxson, and Emma; and her siblings-in-law, Goldie Companion Taylor (Norm), Maisie Smith, Larry Mitchell (Lisa Squires), Myrtle Mitchell, Avis Francis (David Elvarade), Lola Simms, Linda Burton and Dennis Mitchell (Sylvia), as well as her adored nieces and nephews.
Public visitation took place at The Salvation Army Citadel, Woodstock, NL on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 11 am - 12 pm.
The funeral service took place at The Salvation Army Citadel, Woodstock, NL on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 1 pm with Majors Neil and Delores Abbott officiating. Interment followed from The Salvation Army Cemetery, Woodstock, NL.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Leatrice's memory to The Salvation Army Citadel, P.O. Box 17, Woodstock, NL, A0K 5X0.
Leatrice's family would like to thank the long-term care nurses at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre for their care over the years.
