Bertha "Velma"
Lizzie Jacobs
Mar 19, 1946 — Jan 11, 2025
Badger
It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing our dear mother, Bertha "Velma" Jacobs (Burt), while surrounded by her family at the Carmelite House, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, on January 11th, 2025, aged 78.
Velma was the middle child of Raymond Burt (King"s Point) and Doris Guy (Arnold's Cove). She was born in King's Point but moved to Badger at a very early age, where she grew up, married, raised her family and made Badger her home for the last 76yrs, until her placement at the Carmelite House. While raising her family in Badger, she was involved in many aspects of the town. She played a part in Minor Hockey, Girls Guides, Broomball, Ringette, and if there was anything that required a volunteer, she was the one for it, especially for a good game of cards or bingo.
Velma leaves to mourn with loving and beautiful memories, her 3 children, Harold, Sonia (Herbert), David (Denise); Grandchildren, Chad & Cassidy(Brad Manuel). Also her mother who still resides in Badger, Doris Burt; sisters, Viola (Ben Foley), Joyce Wellman & Cavell (Norman Hurley-Westport); brothers-in-laws, Jack(John) Saunders (Sandy-Whitby, Ont), Donald Jacobs (Margaret-Mount Pearl), Gordon Jacobs (Barbara-Badger); and sister-in-law Frances Rose (George-Harbour Breton), as well as large circle of nieces, nephews, family & friends.
Velma was predeceased by her husband David; father, Raymond Burt; in laws Gordon & Annie Jacobs; sister, Rowena Saunders; nephews, John Saunders, Gordon Chapman & Rodney Jacobs.
Her family would like to thank the staff of the Carmelite House for their care and devotion shown to our mother over the last 2 years. It was and is greatly appreciated. God bless you all.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
Service will be held at The Badger Community Church, Badger, Sunday, February 2nd at 11:00am. Luncheon to follow at the Town Centre, Badger, NL.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
