Berta Boehler passed away on December 29, 2022 with her family by her side.
Born in Hemsbach, Germany where she married her husband Ludwig in 1947. On November 5, 1954 she set sail from Germany with her two small boys to join her husband in Ontario, Canada. While in Canada, they welcomed a third son. Not knowing English on arrival she quickly started to fit in picking up the language from her school-aged son and family friends.
Being the wife of a miner, they frequently moved from one mine to another. She loved the adventure. Eventually, the family moved from Canada to California before moving back to Canada arriving in Baie Verte 1966. In later years she lived in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia spending her last days at the White Bay Retirement Centre in Baie Verte.
Berta, best known as Oma to all around her, leaves to mourn her sons, Klaus Boehler (Maxine), Peter Boehler and Gordon Boehler; grandchildren, Kristian Boehler, Terri-Lynn Tran (Viet), Kendel Cunningham (John) and Thomas Boehler; great-grandchildren, Jakob, Lilly and Ella Boehler, Mateo and Maika Tran; brother, Norbert Lerch; sister-in-law, Freidel McCarten as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and close friends.
Berta is predeceased by her husband, Ludwig; parents, Phillip and Elisabeth Lerch; parents-in-law, Ludwig and Mina Strobel; daughter-in-law, Wavie Boehler.
Berta looked forward to her nighttime calls from her granddaughter, Terri-Lynn, she read a book a day, and loved watching her favourite sports, football, baseball, hockey and curling.
A heartfelt thanks to White Bay Retirement Centre and the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre for their constant care and support. Special thanks to the Baie Verte Public Library for going above and beyond to provide her favourite books.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.
