Baie Verte

Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Bernard "Bern" Leslie Osbourne announces his passing from the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte, NL on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the age of 73 years.

Bernard "Bern" was born to Leslie and Hazel Osbourne on August 13, 1949.

Bern grew up in Seal Cove, White Bay. At the age of 18 he went to work at Advocate Mines in Baie Verte where he learnt to operate various kinds of heavy equipment. In 1973, he married Madeline Hollett and had two sons. In 1995 after the closure of the mine, he moved to Tumbler Ridge, BC where he worked at Bullmoose Mine for four years then on to Lloydminster SK/AB where his heavy equipment skills took him to the oil patch. He was a very dedicated employee who took pride in his work.  His motto was, "if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing right!' In 2012 he retired and moved back to Seal Cove.

Before dementia robbed him of his abilities, he could perform many tasks, a jack of all trades. Bern was known for his wit and humour.

Left with a lifetime of beautiful memories is his wife, Madeline Osbourne, Seal Cove, NL; sons, Daren Osbourne (Roxanne), Burlington, ON and Merdi Osbourne (Crystal), Lashburn, SK; grandchildren, Rebecca (Ryan), Dylan (Michaela), Dawson (Chelsey) and Damian; mother, Hazel Osbourne; siblings, Yvonne Lacey (Steve) and Marcia Rice (Barry); father-in-law, Maxwell Hollett; siblings-in-law, George Fry (Dorothy), Loretta Robinson (Peter), Donna Gale (Brian) and Alvin Hollett (Tracy); as well as Jody Harty, Melanie Siklenka, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Bern is predeceased by his father, Leslie Osbourne; siblings, Doreen LeDrew (Rudy) and Joan Fry; grandson, Mason Osbourne; mother-in-law, Delilah Hollett; brother-in-law, Ford Hollett.

A special thank you to his home care worker, Cathy Tuck for her wonderful care. Thank you to A.M. Guy Memorial Long Term Care in Buchan's, NL, Valley Vista in Springdale, NL for his care, and Baie Verte Peninsula Health Center for their care during his short stay.
