It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic and unexpected passing of Alex Peter Dawe on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the age of 17.

Alex was born on September 26, 2008, in Fort McMurray, Alberta, to his loving parents Brian and Lakyn Dawe. As their first child, Alex quickly became the centre of their world and brought endless joy to those around him. He was soon joined by his younger brother Max and later by his sister Lila, completing their family. Alex spent his early years in Fort McMurray before Brian and Lakyn brought their young family home to Newfoundland where they settled in Grand Falls-Windsor. It was there that Alex grew up surrounded by love, family, and the community that became home.

Alex was blessed to grow up surrounded by a large and loving extended family who cherished him deeply. On his father Brian's side, Alex was loved by his Grandparents George and Hazel Dawe, his Aunts Beverly (Peter) Dawe, Shana (Jamie) Strickland and Uncle Peter (Addie) Dawe, and his cousins Jillian, Nolan, Faith, Ben, David and Jack.

On his mother Lakyn's side, Alex was loved by his Grandmother Maxine Power, his Grandfather Bill Tizzard, Grandparents Ruth and Don Butt, his Aunts Dana Butt, and Heather (Steve) Saunders, and his cousins Lily and Jack, and Great Grandmother Geraldine Morey.  Alex was predeceased by his Great Grandfather Guy Morey. Also leaving to mourn a large circle of extended family and friends.

From the very beginning, Alex was a happy, vibrant child. He was silly, playful, and full of affection. He was the life of every room he walked into, a natural comedian who loved making people laugh and bringing joy to those around him. He was also caring and thoughtful, always willing to lend a hand and support the people he loved. Behind Alex's fun-loving personality was a depth that was truly remarkable. Those who knew him best often said that Alex was as deep as the ocean. He had a thoughtful heart, a unique way of seeing the world, and loved having meaningful conversations about life. He cared deeply about the people around him and always wanted to see his family and friends succeed.

Throughout his life, Alex was supported by the unwavering love and encouragement of his parents, Brian and Lakyn. They stood beside him through every challenge, always believing in him and encouraging him to become the best version of himself. In June 2026, Alex proudly graduated high school, an accomplishment that reflected his determination and perseverance. It was a special moment for Alex and for all those who loved him.

There was no more important role to Alex then being a Big Brother to Max and Lila.  He cherished the unbreakable bond he shared with the two of them.  He was a best friend to his brother Max and a Protector to his sister Lila.

Alex believed life was meant to be lived to the fullest. He loved spending time outdoors with his family, especially hunting, fishing, and enjoying time at their cabin. Alex had a love for all sports including, ball hockey, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and especially Hockey where he became a part of the local hockey community, where he valued the friendships and memories made along the way.

Alex was fortunate to have a home that was always filled with laughter, love, and friendship. Brian and Lakyn welcomed their children's friends with open arms, and over the years many of those friendships became more like family. Their home was a place where everyone was welcome, where memories were made, and where Alex's large circle of friends always knew they had a place.

Alex was a young man of strong faith. His relationship with God was an important part of his life, and he found comfort in knowing that God was always with him. He believed there was more beyond this life and that faith brought him peace, hope, and reassurance.

Alex's sudden passing leaves behind a heartbreak that words cannot fully express. Although his time with us was far too short, the love he shared and the memories he created will continue to live on through his family, friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Alex will be remembered for his laughter, kindness, faith, and the way he made people feel valued and included. He will be deeply loved, forever cherished, and missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

The public visitation will take place Wednesday, July 15, 2026  2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
