It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, Albert (Alb) James Hibbs who passed peacefully away at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL aged 85 years, with his son Fred by his side.
Alb was born to Ruben & Agnes Hibbs on December 10, 1935 in Peterview, NL and was the oldest of 8 children: Mable (Elmo) Peyton, Eli (Mable) Hibbs, Marjorie (Ross) Blake, Maisie (William) Burt, Aubrey (Marion) Hibbs, Triffney Williams, Clarence (Linda May) Hibbs.
Alb met the love of his life, Fannie Taylor, and were married on May 1, 1959 and resided in Peterview, NL for 62 years. Together they have 6 children and 1 step-son to Fannie: Gary (Marjorie) Peyton, Grace (Melvin) Gillard, Fern (Roy) Keefe, Marie (Pleaman) Brown, Fred Hibbs, Joy (Frank) Elliott & Jerry Hibbs (Fri Haig); 14 grandchildren. 23 great-grandchildren, & 1 great-great grandchild.
Alb is predeceased by his parents, Rueben & Agnes Hibbs; 4 infant siblings; sister, Mable; & great-granddaughter, Esme Elliott.
Alb started his working life as a logger for the A & D Company but due to his injuries to his back he was forced to change careers and started to work at the Exploits School Division. There he worked for 27 years until his retirement. He loved his job and made many lifelong friends along the way. In his golden years Alb enjoyed going to church, riding his quad in the woods to gather firewood. He is also known for his compassionate and caring ways. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
In keeping with the COVID-19 guidelines the visitation will take place Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm from Botwood Funeral Home, 147 Commonwealth Drive, Botwood, NL.
The funeral service will take place September 17, 2021 at 2 pm from The Salvation Army Citadel, Peterview, NL by invitation only .
Anyone who would like to extend their condolences can stop by Fannie's residence following the interment service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in his memory can be made to The Salvation Army Citadel Building Fund.
